Iganyana Collection – About the Camps
“Authentic Africa in simple luxury, a personalized stay”
Offering 48 beds Iganyana has a comprehensive inventory; a large camp made intimate and special by the informal set-up and professional team who lend personality and quality to every experience.
There are three tented experiences to enjoy at Iganyana with the main camp being the original Iganyana Tented Camp. Built in 2018 Iganyana offers 15 en-suite safari tents. In 2021 Iganyana Wild was added at the end of Iganyana’s East wing and can operate as an extension of Iganyana or as an exclusive pod for private stay. The newest addition, Villa Iganyana, nestles at the end of Iganyana’s West wing and can function as a VIP extension of Iganyana or as an independent, luxury Villa. Each facility is described in detail below.
Iganyana Collection - About the Camps
Walking into Iganyana Tented Camp is a warm welcome home. Subtle comforts, purposeful informality and hand-picked hosts make your experience congenial, comforting and easy-going. The luxury is in simplicity. It is in personalized service and in a camp designed to enhance and heighten your sense of the exquisite natural surrounds.
“Like a priceless piece of art, the treasure is the wild. We are but here to frame it and to be drawn into its magic together with you.”
Where else might be able to curl up on a sofa with a book and beer or a piping cup of coffee and just be YOU – a part of this beautiful picture, at one with Africa?
Bordering the famous Hwange National Park, the Camp offers 15 simply furnished, spacious en-suite tented rooms. Each tent enjoys an African view over an ancient riverbed, now called the Dete Vlei. The tents, connected by a latticing of natural, red gravel pathways on level ground, are positioned to form an attractive arc around an open-plan, decked main area that also features pool deck, a pizza oven and rustic fire Boma. Wildlife walks freely at Iganyana and guests can look forward to great game viewing opportunity both in and out of camp. No trees were cut out during the building of Iganyana and the tented rooms are built in and around ancient elephant pathways that are still in use today. The guest tents are light and spacious, with 640 square ft. to make yourself at home and retreat to privacy in comfort. All rooms accommodate king or twin bed configuration and are able to fit 2 additional single beds per unit for families with small children. En-suite bathrooms feature hot water showers, toilet and his/hers vanities. There is a separate dressing area and a mini-lounge. Glass sliding doors lead from the bedroom onto a private veranda. Access to Iganyana by road is conveniently only a 2-hour drive or 30-minute flight from Victoria Falls, or a 3-hour drive from Bulawayo and only 5 minutes’ drive from Hwange Main Airport.
It’s pure therapy to immerse in nature, and we’ve made it easy for you to get to this wild retreat. Guests only need take a 20-minute flight from Victoria Falls to Hwange Main Airport and a 5-minute transfer to camp, or a 2-hour drive (total journey into camp) on good road from the World Wonder.
Transfers can be arranged from Victoria Falls or Bulawayo and shuttles are readily available from camp to pick-up points around Iganyana including Hwange Main Camp, Hwange Airport and Painted Dog Center.
Iganyana Wild
Iganyana Wild was the first addition made to the original Iganyana Tented Camp. It offers 4 new tents at the end of the East wing and it acts as a seamless extension of Iganyana for bigger groups and equally as a tented pod for exclusive groups of up to 8 adults. Each tent can convert to a family configuration and can accommodate an additional 2 single beds for small children. Maximum number of children for this camp is 4.
Nestled in the part of the camp where the sun rises it is secluded in a teak forest for total privacy and independence on safari. The tented rooms are designed to mimic those in the original camp but with subtle safari-ranch style décor as a throw-back to original explorer days on horseback.
An arty steel and canvas design is a fresh take on safari and the main area is further distinguished by the triple-tier living area that has been carefully constructed around the natural tree-line without disturbing it. The trees actually feature inside the main area so as to incorporate the outside inside, blending Iganyana Wild with nature.
The lower deck features a simple lounge, dining area, bar, fire boma, kitchen and study. A middle-tier reading deck lends segregated seating for pockets of privacy to unwind and watch the wild, and the tree-top deck is perfect for sunrise view over Dete Vlei, an all-safari sundowner or a night beneath the stars.
Iganyana Wild is offered as a fully catered camp but may also be privately hired for self-catered groups where guests prefer to bring their own Chef and / or supplies. Self-catered is not intended as a value alternative, but rather to afford the luxury of utter privacy and independence without any outside intrusion.
This camp is suited to small groups and can accommodate families with older children (12+ years). Exceptions are possible by prior arrangement and may require additional services for Iganyana Wild to accommodate younger children safely and comfortably.
Iganyana Wild is also home to our Travel Partner, Ride Zimbabwe. Their horses are stabled behind camp and are available for professional horseback safaris in Hwange! This is a prestigious sport worldwide and is no exception here in Hwange for professional horseback safaris. These are available on request to accomplished riders and must be pre-booked. The horses are a part of our anti-poaching strategy in Hwange too and are very much a part of our Iganyana family.
At Iganyana Wild you are in great hands! As with Iganyana Tented Camp, guests are hosted by an armed guide to ensure safety on safari. Walking to and from tents is escorted from sunset to sunrise.
Guest may book Iganyana Wild exclusively for a minimum 6 pax.
Villa Iganyana
Villa Iganyana is the latest addition to the Iganyana portfolio, opened formally on 1 May 2022. Whereas Iganyana Wild is at the end of the East wing, Villa Iganyana is positioned in a Teak Forest at the end of the West Wing. It offers tranquil vistas over Dete Vlei and into what we affectionately call ‘Spooky Forest’ – a beautiful Acacia grove where Impala and Wildebeest mill about with their babies, baboons play and antic, and buffalo routinely sweep through at sunset – at times with lion in pursuit. It is an ethereal setting guaranteed to surprise and delight.
Villa Iganyana was built to offer private travel groups the ultimate in tranquil retreat and total privacy on safari. Book lovers, writers, painters and dreamers, exclusive clubs and solace-seekers – this is the place for you. It is all about escape from the crowd, independence and glorious exclusivity.
The Villa comprises 4 full furnished tented bed rooms, each with en-suite bathroom. Two Master are en-suite including glassed showers with privileged view to the Vlei, bath and vanity unit. The two twin / double rooms are also en-suite with showers, toilet and vanity unit.
The entire Villa is designed to fit in with the safari tented theme of the entire camp. It has a sliding door façade for translucency, ample light and best view of the wild even from your bed. Inside there are luxury comforts including pillowy-soft beds and linens, comfortable rooms, fully-featured kitchenette and scullery, cozy lounge, dinette area, leisure deck and plunge pool (pool to be completed May 2022) and fire-boma. A tree-top walk just lends that extra sense of luxury, allowing guests a short walk through the branches to a private viewing deck with an all-African view.
In keeping with the rest of the camp Villa Iganyana is powered by solar units and is built so as not to imprint on the natural bush surrounds. It mimics the arty canvas and steel structures at Iganyana Wild but adds the glass element for inside / outside feel. No trees have been cut out in any part of the camp and the natural placement of the trees feature throughout the Villa too.
Villa Iganyana is offered as a fully catered accommodation and is attended by a private chef, room hand, laundry team waiter.
This is an exclusive, luxury, authentic safari stays. Guests may book the Villa exclusively for a minimum 6 pax.

Jozibanini Camp
Jozibanini Camp is situated in the remote south west of Hwange National Park in a wilderness unused for nearly 20 years; only the wildlife and the Parks rangers who look after it frequent this area, once roamed by San people. This is a small, truly exclusive camp in a truly wild place, providing a unique, untamed wilderness experience.
The ecosystem here is semi-desert akin to the Kalahari in neighbouring Botswana. Ancient windblown fossil sand dunes are separated by shallow valleys where elephant paths have compacted the terrain, providing Imvelo with the opportunity for a unique experiment of game viewing by mountain bike. Imvelo is breaking new ground in Hwange in terms of the remoteness of the location and the uniqueness of the environment.
Ideally we recommend this as a two-day add-on for guests from Imvelo’s other Hwange properties; Bomani, Camelthorn or Nehimba. These special guests will be looking for adventure; the day-long transfer to Jozibanini will be a ‘pump run,’ resupplying waterholes en route, providing an opportunity for guests to get involved in the incredible game water supply program that is unique to Imvelo.
Jozibanini Quick Facts
- 6 hour by 4WD from Bomani, Camelthorn or Nehimba; this is an extended game drive with picnic on the way and not a standard transfer, usually incorporated into one of Imvelo’s signature pump runs.
- Currently the nearest airstrip is the Somalisa Airstrip near Manga 3 (3 hour game drive from camp).
- Jozibanini is situated in its own private concession and because the nearest other tourism facility is a 4 hours drive to the north, guests at Jozi can look forward to a very exclusive experience across a vast swathe of Hwange.
- Guest accommodation overlooks Jozibanini Pan; dining is informal ‘fly camp style’ out under the stars.
Jozibanini Accommodation
- One double bedded and two twin bedded tents on raised wooden decks tucked under Shepherds bush and Camelthorn trees. Bucket Shower and flush toilet en-suite.
- Open-topped veranda wide enough to take a bed out for nights under the stars.
- Underground hide.

Nehimba Lodge

All the diversity of Hwange’s fauna and flora is within easy reach. No two days are the same at Nehimba and game viewing experiences are tailor-made to our guest’s preferences, including game drives, walking safaris and night game drives on our private concession in search of nocturnal species of wildlife. Whether you choose to track a herd of elephant on foot with your highly trained guide at dawn or spend the afternoon relaxing overlooking the waterhole on the deck by the pool, this wild and unspoilt bush paradise will guarantee you leave with memories to last a lifetime!

- The lodge is situated on a 278sq-km private concession within Northern Hwange National Park.

Verney’s Camp
Verney’s is a private concession area in a typically un-used part of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. It is a beautiful amphitheater fringed by teak forest that opens up onto an impressive waterhole that is a playground to the famous elephant herds of Hwange. Verney’s joined the Machaba Safaris group in 2017 with a totally clean piece of unspoiled wilderness.
Verney’s Camp is being built in keeping with Machaba Safaris’ winning recipe that matches the timeless wonder of a classic safari to Africa, aimed at the affordable luxury travel markets worldwide for both the novice and the well seasoned safari traveler.
Verney's Camp Accommodation
Ten tents are tucked perfectly under the shady arms of the teak trees bordering the open waterhole in front of camp. Each tent has been carefully positioned to ensure the best serenity and privacy so that guests can enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Each room is comfortably appointed and has en suite shower, flush toilet, double vanity, all beautifully designed to retain the authenticity and magical feeling of being on safari. Sikumi Tree Lodge
Sikumi overlooks a watering pan set in a grove of acacia and mangwe trees. The pan is illuminated at night – Watch as black-maned lions pad across the drying grass and listen to the mournful cry of the jackal.
In keeping with safari tradition, a nightly log fire draws guests together to share their day’s discoveries. Without “wall to wall” tourists, Hwange park is the ideal destination for those video and photographic opportunities.
Safari holidays these days anywhere in Africa are normally extremely expensive, the best areas are normally occupied by five star lodges which tend to charge exorbitant prices, which is very unfortunate for the middle of the road family. Well do not despair, Sikumi Tree Lodge is ideal for anyone looking to see Africa at its best but doesn’t want to camp or self-cater but is also not concerned with the bells and whistles of a luxury camp.
It should really have been included in the area under the protection of the National Park! However, its exclusion is to the advantage of the safari tourist, with lower reserve fees and the opportunity to undertake night drives on the estate. There is no boundary fence between this private estate and the National park and game wanders freely between the two.
